Williamsport is a small, uncongested city of 35,000 situated in the Susquehanna Valley of the Bald Eagle Mountains. While the city may be described as being in a region of “woods, water and wildlife,” Williamsport is a busy business, manufacturing, government, and finance center. As home to Lycoming College, Penn Tech and other nearby colleges, Williamsport also has a college-town atmosphere.
Summer Sports Fun in Williamsport – Play Ball!
Williamsport is probably most famous for being the home of Little League Baseball, the original field where the first World Series was played, and the site of current World Series Championship games at Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport. Every August 16 teams from around the world compete for the title of World champions. While visiting Lamade Stadium make sure to stop in and visit the Little League Museum located just near the stadium, and don’t forget the local pro team, the Crosscutters.
Historic Williamsport
Williamsport has a rich history that runs from its days as an outpost of the American frontier, to the lumber industry boom that created Millionaire’s Row, a string of about twenty mid-19th century mansions on West Fourth Street. The lumber millionaires also helped pave the way for the early adoption of an electric streetcar system in 1891 (one year before the same occurence in Philadelphia). Today, Historic Trolley Tours showcase this town’s exciting and interesting heritage.

The west branch of the Susquehanna provides about 14 miles of navigable water making it perfect for canoeing, kayaking, water skiing and every other water sport imaginable. Lycoming County contains 700,000 acres of parks, with many hiking trails, horseback riding trails and cross country skiing trails. The spring bloom is especially colorful with hundreds of species of trees and shrubs blooming from March to June. The fall foliage change is spectacularly brilliant, peaking during the middle two weeks of October.
